94% of Crypto Transactions in Argentina Are Stablecoins
In Argentina, 94% of the trading volume between the Argentine peso and cryptocurrencies involves stablecoins, according to a16z crypto. This trend persists despite an economic improvement and a relaxation of access to the dollar. Argentinians use stablecoins like USDT and USDC to save, receive payments, and manage their expenses. About one in five Argentinians uses cryptocurrencies, with a 93% increase in downloads of major crypto apps in 2024. Although monthly inflation has dropped to 2.1%, the use of stablecoins remains high. In April 2024, the share of Argentine freelancers paid in USDC had increased as annual inflation reached 289%. Even after the easing of restrictions on dollar purchases in April 2025, stablecoins continue to be used for financial transactions. By the end of August 2026, the premium for obtaining a digital dollar was around 4%. Stablecoins have become a regular financial infrastructure, allowing for international payments and the preservation of savings in dollars.
