Zilliqa Falls After Vulnerability Warning for Ledger Wallet
Zilliqa (ZIL) has been experiencing a decline following a vulnerability warning for the Ledger wallet app. Concerns have been raised that some users' private keys could be compromised, leading to immediate market reactions regarding security issues. Zilliqa stated that the vulnerability could generate weakened 'ephemeral nonces' during the signing process, allowing attackers to potentially recover private keys. Temporary countermeasures have been implemented, and adjustments are underway for the release of a patched version in collaboration with Ledger. Zilliqa requested exchanges to temporarily suspend ZIL deposits and withdrawals on Monday, citing a security vulnerability where ZIL outflows were confirmed from cold wallets. Users who signed with Ledger devices at least five times have been classified as having a 'potential compromise' and were advised to withhold any separate actions until further notice. Users who traded ZIL through EVM-compatible tools were not affected. As a result, ZIL has dropped 1.5% in the last 24 hours and 17% over the past week, trading just above $0.0024. This incident has heightened awareness regarding wallet security and on-chain signing structures, with attention focused on Zilliqa's follow-up actions and the speed of the patched app's release.
