Ukraine and Romania Agree on Measures to Accelerate Shipping through the Sulina Canal
Ukraine, Romania, and the European Commission held a working meeting where they agreed on measures to increase the capacity of the Sulina Canal and reduce waiting times for vessels. The parties synchronized their plans for modernizing the canal with the needs of the Ukrainian Danube cluster. Key steps include the creation of a coordination center to regulate fleet movement, increasing the staff of Romanian customs services to process more vessels, continuing the "PRIMUS" project for round-the-clock fleet passage, organizing joint training for maritime agents, and increasing the overall number of vessel passages. The necessity of thorough documentation checks by maritime agents before public statements regarding the reasons for delays was also discussed. It was previously reported that Romania plans to double the transit of Ukrainian grain to 4 million tons per month via Danube routes.
