SEC Unveils New Framework for Cryptocurrency Regulation
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is ready to advance policies related to digital assets. The deadline for public comments on the digital asset regulations is approaching; these regulations, proposed in August, aim to create a transparent framework for investment contracts related to digital assets. During this 60-day period, the SEC collected approximately 140 comments from stakeholders and individuals. The MiCA Crypto Alliance supported the SEC's proposed changes to disclosure requirements and recommended amendments to better define concepts and data structures specific to digital assets. Anthony Scaramucci, founder of SkyBridge Capital, also endorsed the SEC's proposed rules, viewing them as a response to natural and organic adoption. While many public comments praised the SEC's efforts to advance cryptocurrency regulation, some legal experts believe that these rules are easier to repeal or amend than congressional enactments. Additionally, the SEC and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) are facing a shortage of leadership and management personnel.
