Pago Móvil Reaches 63% of Transactions in Venezuela, Competing with USDT
Pago Móvil accounts for 63% of commercial transactions in Venezuela, surpassing traditional point-of-sale systems, according to Richard Ujueta, president of the Venezuelan Electronic Commerce Chamber (Cavecom-e). The use of Pago Móvil has increased to over 8,500 transactions per minute. This growth is attributed to the search for alternatives in the face of inflation, where the stablecoin USDT also competes for daily purchasing flows. Ujueta reported that banking flow grew from 6,000 operations per minute in 2023 to over 8,500 in June 2026, an increase of 41.67%. It is estimated that the transaction volume will reach nearly 70 billion dollars by the end of the period. On the other hand, the volume traded in USDT has created a significant parallel ecosystem, with 1.389 billion USDT mobilized between June 11 and July 13, 2025, averaging 44 million daily. Most businesses in Venezuela set prices in bolívares or foreign currencies but accept USDT as a common form of payment. Between July 2025 and June 2026, Venezuela mobilized 39.1 billion dollars in digital assets, positioning itself as the fourth largest market in Latin America. This demand is attributed to macroeconomic factors affecting households and businesses, driving the use of digital platforms for payments.
