OpenAI Refutes Exponential Time Hypothesis; Bitcoin Decryption Possibility Remains Uncertain
OpenAI announced that it has refuted the Exponential Time Hypothesis (ETH) using artificial intelligence (AI). ETH is a hypothesis regarding computational difficulty, and OpenAI claims that AI has proven this hypothesis to be false. However, the possibility of decrypting Bitcoin remains unproven. OpenAI verified the results using a tool called 'Lean' and published the paper and code. The Exponential Time Hypothesis states that the computational time increases exponentially for the '3-SAT' problem. OpenAI presented an algorithm that shows a gradual increase in computational time. Bitcoin security is based on the premise that performing certain calculations within a realistic timeframe is difficult. However, quickly solving general logic problems does not necessarily lead to techniques for finding Bitcoin private keys. Bitcoin mining involves the task of finding hash values, which requires the owner's digital signature. Therefore, it cannot be concluded that Bitcoin security has been undermined solely based on OpenAI's results. Independent reviews are being conducted by professors from UC San Diego and MIT, and OpenAI has stated that further research is needed.
