Google's Updated Crypto Advertising Rules for UAE Take Effect
Google's updated advertising rules for crypto exchanges and wallet providers targeting the UAE took effect on October 21. Advertisers must obtain a local license and Google certification to promote their services. The update follows an earlier announcement and is not a new rule. Google recognizes four authorities for licensing: the Capital Market Authority, Dubai Financial Services Authority, Financial Services Regulatory Authority, and Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority. It is important to note that having a license does not automatically mean an advertiser has completed Google's certification process. The updated policy clarifies that advertising eligibility is separate from the assessment of a business's regulated activities. Companies must ensure their authorization and certification align with the services they promote and the jurisdictions they target. The rules specifically apply to cryptocurrency exchanges and software wallets in the UAE, and eligibility in one market does not guarantee eligibility in another.
