Federal Reserve to Announce Interest Rate Decision on Thursday, Waller to Hold Press Conference
On October 25, the market focus shifted twice in the past week. At the beginning of the week, U.S. chip and AI stocks rebounded, with funds rotating into the healthcare and financial sectors; on Wednesday, after Meta announced its capital expenditure plans, concerns about AI valuations and returns resurfaced; on Thursday, the tech sector faced a sell-off, with safe-haven funds flowing into U.S. Treasuries and the yen, while Houthi forces attacked Saudi energy facilities, causing Brent crude prices to rise to a five-month high. Key market highlights for next week (all in Beijing time): Thursday at 02:00, the Federal Reserve FOMC will announce its interest rate decision; Thursday at 02:30, Federal Reserve Chairman Waller will hold a monetary policy press conference; Thursday at 20:30, the U.S. will release the preliminary annualized quarterly GDP for Q3, the annual rate of the core PCE price index for September, the annual rate of the PCE price index for September, the number of initial jobless claims for the week ending October 24, and the monthly rate of personal spending for September; Thursday at 21:15, the European Central Bank will announce its interest rate decision; Thursday at 21:45, ECB President Lagarde will hold a press conference; on Friday, the Bank of Japan will announce its interest rate decision; on Friday at 14:30, Bank of Japan Governor Ueda will hold a press conference. Next week, U.S. stocks will enter the busiest week of earnings season, with about one-third of S&P 500 constituents set to report their earnings, with Microsoft and Alphabet leading the way on Wednesday after market close, followed by Amazon on Thursday after market close.
