Federal Reserve Long-Term Interest Rate Expectations Rise to 3.2%
The Federal Reserve's economic forecast summary has raised its prediction for the long-term level of the benchmark interest rate to 3.2%, up from 3.1% previously. This indicates that Federal Reserve officials believe the neutral rate has increased, meaning this rate level theoretically neither stimulates nor suppresses economic growth and inflation. Many economists believe that the surge in large-scale AI investments has driven up this rate. Analyst Waller pointed out that the U.S. economy has shifted from excess savings to a surge in investments over the past decade and a half.
