Circle cites 175+ institutions as CPN wins Money20/20 payments bronze
Circle has cited more than 175 financial institutions helping build Circle Payments Network after the stablecoin payments service won bronze in the Payments category at the Money20/20 Money Awards.
Summary
- Circle cited 175+ financial institutions supporting CPN after winning bronze at the Money20/20 Money Awards.
- Earlier disclosures listed 175 enrolled institutions, without establishing how many were actively processing payments.
- CPN reported $14.7 billion in annualized transaction volume at the end of Q2 2026.
- Visa and Mesh announced wallet-based spending plans, while Mastercard introduced stablecoin risk screening.
Circle said in its award announcement that the institutions were helping make CPN a global payments network, thanking its payments team alongside the participating firms.
"Thank you to the 175+ financial institutions helping make CPN a global payments network," the company wrote.
The figure follows an earlier enrollment disclosure in Circle's second-quarter results. Published Aug. 5, those results listed 175 financial institutions enrolled at the end of June, up 29% from the previous quarter.
The award post describes institutions helping build the network, while the financial release uses the term enrolled. Neither statement establishes how many of those institutions were actively processing payments on Oct. 19.

Circle CPN previously reported $14.7 billion in annualized volume
Circle's second-quarter release put CPN's annualized transaction volume at $14.7 billion, based on the trailing 30 days at quarter-end. The company reported 76% growth from the preceding quarter.
The annualized figure expresses the payment pace over that reference period on a yearly basis. It does not mean CPN settled $14.7 billion during the quarter or that a full year of transactions had reached that amount.
Circle separately reported $14.8 trillion in USDC onchain transaction volume during the second quarter and $73.3 billion of USDC in circulation at quarter-end. Its earnings release presents those measures separately from CPN's payment-network activity.
In the same update, Circle said Nium had connected USDC settlement with payout infrastructure covering more than 190 countries. The arrangement permits financial institutions to move funds through CPN and settle in local currencies, according to the release.
CPN Managed Payments lets institutions keep fiat workflows
As crypto.news previously reported, Circle launched CPN Managed Payments on April 8 to give banks, payment providers and fintech companies access to stablecoin settlement without managing digital assets directly.
According to the launch announcement, participating firms can interact solely in fiat while Circle handles USDC minting and burning, payment orchestration, compliance controls and blockchain infrastructure.
The company lists cross-border settlement, merchant acceptance and global payouts among the supported uses. Circle described custody, licensing requirements, compliance complexity and operational risk as barriers that the managed service was designed to address.
Its release named Veem among the companies collaborating on the launch and exploring stablecoin settlement uses. Circle described a single integration governed by its operational framework, with institutions able to adopt more direct control over time.
A February corridor update provides specific details on local payouts. Circle identified Tazapay as a partner for US dollar payouts through the Fedwire Funds Service and Singapore payouts through FAST.
The same announcement named Saber for India and European Union payouts, Coins.ph for the Philippines and LuLu Financial Holdings for the United Arab Emirates. Circle listed remittances, payroll, merchant settlement and platform payouts among the uses for those corridors.
Circle identifies Circle Technology Services, LLC as CPN's operator and technology service provider. Its corridor notice describes CPN as connecting participating financial institutions worldwide, with that entity providing access and integration services to network members.
In India, Circle said NEFT payouts typically take under two hours, while IMPS and RTGS offer near-instant payouts. Its European corridor uses SEPA, according to the update.
Visa and Mesh target spending through existing merchant checkouts
On Oct. 19, Mesh announced a Visa partnership designed to let consumers spend cryptocurrency and stablecoin balances held in participating wallet applications at physical stores and online.
The announcement cited access to Visa's network of more than 175 million merchant locations across over 200 countries and territories. Those figures describe Visa's existing acceptance footprint, rather than institutions enrolled in CPN.
Mesh said a Visa credential would be provisioned behind the scenes, allowing customers to tap at standard contactless terminals or pay online. Merchants would receive standard payments without installing new hardware or changing checkout workflows.
Under the proposed arrangement, Mesh handles transaction funding and conversion across supported crypto, stablecoin, and fiat balances. Reporting on the wallet payment partnership identified no disclosed launch date or list of wallets that would support the service initially.

Mastercard launches stablecoin screening first in North America
Mastercard announced Stablecoin Security at Money20/20 USA on Oct. 19, naming Borderless.xyz and Keyrails as its initial partners.
The company said the service combines payment intelligence and blockchain analytics to identify fraud, scams, sanctions, and other financial-crime indicators, including before funds move onchain.
Delivered through an application programming interface, the tool examines transaction context, the source of funds, restricted-party exposure and scam indicators. Mastercard said it produces a risk score before a payment is completed and can fit into existing fraud, compliance and case-management systems.
The announcement follows Mastercard's June stablecoin settlement expansion. Its earlier statement named USDC, PYUSD, USDG, USDP, RLUSD and SoFiUSD, with an initial deployment covering parts of the United States and Latin America.
In the June rollout, Mastercard said issuers and acquirers could settle during weekends, holidays and throughout the day. The company named ARQ, CBW Bank, Cross River, Lead Bank and Nuvei among the institutions expected to support the option.
Mastercard said Stablecoin Security is launching first in North America, with worldwide commercial availability expected in 2027. Its planned expansion includes BVNK, the stablecoin infrastructure provider it acquired in August.
