China and Egypt Expand Investments in the Suez Canal Economic Zone
Presidents Abdel Fatah al Sisi and Xi Jinping agreed to expand China's investment in the Suez Canal Economic Zone. This approach aims to strengthen Beijing's strategic position in the Middle East amid the impact of the war between the US and Iran. During Xi Jinping's visit to Egypt, marking his return after ten years, an agreement was signed among BRICS partners to activate the third phase of their joint industrial park, which already hosts 200 companies and commits capital of approximately 4 billion dollars. The new investments will give Beijing a greater role in the Suez Canal, reinforcing its regional influence amid tensions from the US-Iran conflict. Geopolitical agenda was central to the meeting, where both leaders discussed the urgency of addressing the consequences of the war that has lasted for half a year.
