Bitwise Bitcoin ETP Now Accessible to UK Retail Investors
UK asset platform Hargreaves Lansdown (HL) has opened access to Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) cryptocurrency exchange-traded notes (ETNs) for some retail investors. The Bitwise Core Bitcoin ETP has been added to HL's list of tradable products. HL classifies cryptocurrency ETNs as high-risk investments and has indicated that they are only available through fund and share accounts and self-invested personal pensions (SIPPs). Investors must undergo advanced investor self-certification, suitability assessments, and a 24-hour cooling-off period, and can allocate no more than 10% of their net assets to cryptocurrency ETNs. On the HL search screen, the Bitwise Core Bitcoin ETP is listed under the BTC3 line, with a management fee of 0.05%. Bitwise reported a total assets under management (AUM) of $184.76 million as of September 3, 2026. This development is closely related to HL's expansion of its cryptocurrency ETN offerings, with HL beginning to provide nine cryptocurrency ETNs. In an announcement on October 20, 2025, Bitwise stated that it had launched four ETPs related to Bitcoin and Ethereum on the London Stock Exchange (LSE) retail segment. The easing of regulations by the UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has lifted restrictions on retail investors' access to cryptocurrency ETNs. HL users can trade cryptocurrency ETNs like stocks, but must pass account type and investor qualification restrictions.
