Binance Founder Changpeng Zhao Predicts IPOs Will Move On-Chain
Binance founder Changpeng Zhao has stated that the initial public offering (IPO) market will shift to a blockchain-based on-chain model. On the 8th, he mentioned on his X account that "IPOs will move on-chain." On-chain refers to the method where transactions and changes in asset ownership are recorded on the blockchain network, and recently, the tokenization of real-world assets (RWA) has been spreading into traditional financial markets. There is an increasing possibility that stock issuance and trading will also transition to blockchain. An on-chain IPO is a concept that processes transactions directly on the blockchain network without going through traditional securities firms and exchanges, which could enhance the efficiency of the fundraising process. However, a complete transition of IPOs to on-chain is likely to be challenging due to regulatory issues. Existing securities laws and investor protection regulations are likely to apply, and there is a need for a system that clearly defines the responsible parties in case of trading errors or hacking incidents. Zhao's remarks suggest that the tokenization of financial assets could expand into the realm of corporate fundraising.
